I think the house rules meeting was on move-in day (that evening), so that would explain why they were wearing the same clothes.
The "Are you Jewish?" question most likely did arise out of Sigma AEPi being a Jewish-interest sorority - but they could have been more subtle. There's a difference between "you must be Jewish to join our sorority" and "you don't have to be Jewish, but we espouse Jewish ideals, we have Shabbat dinners, we don't have mandatory events on Jewish holidays, etc. and we ask that you be ok with that." From the show, and particularly from the fact that some of the women they invited to join were not Jewish, it looks like Sigma AEPi is in the latter category... but just asking the question "Are you Jewish?" does imply that the answer had better be yes.
