Although your city's Alumnae Panhellenic is no longer active, have you tried the AP for your nearest major city? Or you could try getting to know some of the actives involved in Greek Life at your nearest university. Some of the sororities do allow actives to write recommendations if the PNM is rushing at a different school.
Also make sure to ask your friends' parents; as well as your parents' friends (I know that came out a bit confusing, but I couldn't think how else to word it!)
