One thing I think you should double check is that there really is NO Spring rush. They may not have a structured informal rush but there may well be a chapter or two who are going to want to pick up a couple members. I would express your interest to the Greek Life office (or whatever it's called) and ask around to the sorority women you've met.

The bad part about informal rush is you don't get to see all the chapters. The good part is you can focus on a particular chapter or two without as much of the stress of all those parties and the obligatory cuts. And do keep in mind that although even the strongest chapters can need to pick up a couple girls in the spring, in general your best bet is going to be with the smaller chapters. DON'T confuse small with bad, less fun, less sisterly, less of a lifetime membership. If you read through many of the rush threads here you can see that many great chapters kind of suck at formal rush. This is not a reflection on the girls or the sorority at large. And so SOOO many times those chapters who suck at formal are really great at informal. It's just a different style and the more casual, personal touch works better for some than for others.

If it turns out you do have to wait until fall, just go through with your head high, do the best you can, accept you'll possibly take heavier cuts than your freshman peers, and have an open mind. Hopefully as a junior you'll see the bigger picture of sorority life and not just the letters and the parties.
