My school claims to be non-competitive. I talked to someone in the Greek Life office and she said they don't require letters of recommendation and that my age isn't a problem and having previously rushed isn't a problem. One house told us during Fall rush that they only require a 2.5 GPA to get in, and I can easily do that.

What the school and what the chapters tell you are TECHNICALITIES. Sorority membership is about people and how they connect. It's not like National Honor Society where if you have a certain GPA you're automatically in. If the girls don't like you, your age, grades or extracurriculars aren't going to matter one way or the other - unless you are a campus superstar of such magnitude that pledging you would automatically make them the most popular sorority there. And there are VERY few of those on earth.
Do NOT ask friends in sororities why you were released. That's confidential sorority business and asking them to divulge it to you is very inconsiderate. Just talk to them about normal stuff (movies, music, classes etc).
