Steely Dan didn't come up with the term either -- it goes back at least to 1869. At least according to the Wiki, it was the Philadelphia Police who first used the term to refer to the day after Thanksgiving (at least as early as 1966, so before Steely Dan), and they didn't mean it as a compliment.
