I feel the need to defend my spam here...

I find it funny that people have such a strong dislike for spam. I know of individuals who haven't even tried it yet--and already they don't like it.

I've been eating it my whole life and I'm still alive!

The story behind Hawaii's love for spam is an interesting one. Back in WWII, there was such a big food supply shortage here because ships had a hard time bringing supplies to the islands. When they did arrive here, by then most of the food was spoiled and rotten... and being that spam's canned, it was the one of the few that did survive. People back then had no choice but to eat the spam.

As kids we'd always look forward to getting spam musubis in our lunches. Those were definitely considered treats.

I really could care less about what's in the spam. I consume so many things every day that could probably kill me faster than spam.

But then again...maybe it's just a local thing.
