But technically, the pot and the kitty are slightly different. The kitty is that portion of the pot (or a separate fund from the pot) that pays for joint expenses, like beers or whatever. By the same token, an office kitty is contributed to by everyone in the office to pay for things like birthday cakes or whatever.
