I figure there are almost no grade cuts for freshmen because high school GPAs tend to be higher than college ones and getting into the school often requires having higher than the minimum.

My school verifies freshman GPA by their high school transcripts. We do have several who put down a much higher GPA than their actual (and sometimes leads me to wonder hwo they got in to college) or this year we had a few put their high school GPA as being "2.6-2.8." We need an actual GPA not a GPA range, so we had to wait for verification.
