Day Two:
Today we visited:
RAINBOWS
HEARTS
GOLDEN TREASURE
BLUE MOONS
RAINBOWS:
I wasn’t sure how to feel about this group. Last year I hadn’t gotten an invite back from them so didn’t know how they would feel about me this year. I had a really good time though. I started out talking to one girl and then another girl came over and joined us. It was kind of awkward though because they were sitting on both sides of me so I kept looking back and forth between them as I was talking which got awkward at times. We mostly talked about ourselves and our families and things like that, so we hardly got a chance to talk about the sorority at all, which I’m not sure is a good thing or not. I guess we will see. The girls I talked to though were really nice and I felt very comfortable. There was an awkward moment though when the girls were asking me why I hadn’t gone through rush before so I was telling them my story about rushing last year and I said that I had gotten a bid and the girl asked me, oh who was it from, so I felt really uncomfortable because they told us we shouldn’t discuss other sororities, but luckily the other girl who was rushing me said, oh you don’t have to answer that, so I got out of that awkward situation. The girls in RAINBOWS though are known as being kind of stuck up and full of themselves, so I had conflicted feelings as I left.
HEARTS:
We went here next and I again had mixed feelings because I hadn’t gone to their Invite party last year. I had really good conversations with the girls though about the sorority such as sisterhoods and why they loved it. The conversations were all pretty good. The only awkward moment was when the girl asked me why I was rushing as a junior, and then asked me again. She was really embarrassed, but it was ok, we just laughed it off. One of my friends from this sorority dropped by and said hi which was super nice. They showed us a slideshow and it was really cute and it was very obvious that these girls really love their sorority.
GOLDEN TREASURE:
This sorority is relatively small on our campus compared to the other National Sororities on campus, but still much larger than the local sorority. I didn’t have any friends in this sorority so I didn’t feel like I knew very much about it going in, but I had a really good time. Every single girl I talked to was super nice, but the conversations just didn’t seem to flow and did not come naturally. They had several of the girls go up and talk to us about why they love their sorority and they shared some of the fu n sisterhoods they have had over the last few years. I also really liked the cheers they did for us at the end when we were leaving. I left with a good impression, but definitely not my favorite either.
BLUE MOONS:
This was our last Open Party. This is the local sorority on campus and they only have 10 girls or so, so it was awkward because two of their girls were mixed up with 8 or 9 of us PNMs. It was just an awkward mess really. They didn’t really know what to say to us, so a lot of the time the PNMs just talked to each other. Which was nice, but we didn’t really learn anything about the sorority and I left not having a very good impression. This was my least favorite group last year too.
After getting back from the parties we had to rank the sororities in order of our preference. I ranked them as:
1. STARS
2. RED BALLOONS
3. HEARTS
4. RAINBOWS
5. GOLDEN TREASURE
6. CLOVER
7. BLUE MOONS
I really have no idea if I will get any invites in the morning or not….I’m not feeling that optimistic..but that may also just be a psychological protection technique so that I won’t be hurt if I don’t get any invites or not…..
