I have to say that HAZING, in moderation, can be a good. Hazing your pledges builds unity amongst the class and it also weeds out the pledges that will not fit into or represent the house the way you and your Alumni want it to be. I have seen many people on here complaining about how they were "punished" during pledging, or as you people would like to candy coat it "New Member Education Period", for getting a question wrong when an active member asked you a question about the house that you wanted to be a part of. If they tell you to sing a nursery rhyme in public, SUCK IT UP, you will break out of your shell. If they tell you to do 20 push ups, SUCK IT UP, you might lose a few pounds. If you are getting yelled at for something that is so stupid that you want to laugh to their face, SUCK IT UP, it's good practice for life.
That being said some hazing is just pointless and there is no thought or reason behind it. Making a pledge eat a vomit covered bar of soap has no benefit on the pledge in life unless they are into some messed up scat shit, but I am not passing judgement.
Pledging isn't just about learning to be a brother or a sister, it teaches you about life. And remember that if you aren't happy with the pledge program you are in, the door is right over there and no one is going to think any less of you because you walked away with your head held high. Just don't start telling house secrets to everyone because that's when you will end up getting your ass kicked.
