Uhm, actually the way most pills work (specifically combination and progesterone) is by preventing ovulation most of the time. At only about 3% of the time does a woman actually ovulate.
A woman does not actually menstruate when shes on the pill but still sheds a lining similar to that of a monthly period(i think, maybe one of the med students/nurses/doctors on the board could correct me if thats wrong)
