AU? Auburn lol? I was somewhat in the same position as your son. However, I am an oos entering my freshman year in the fall. I did not know anyone in the greek life system at AU prior to rush, but I contacted the Greek Life System at AU and multiple fraternities well before this summer. I thought it would be hard as an oos, let alone someone above the Mason-Dixon Line, but I was very blessed and fortunate enough to receive a few bids (4 to be exact, and I took a bit off work to come down). I pledged to the one I liked the best.

Sorry for the rambling, back to you and your son's situation: I don't think you should worry (although it depends which organization's parties he went to. I asked some of the fraternities, which I was fortunate to receive a bid from, if it would be a problem-I had received 2 of the 4 at this point) and this fraternity, let's call it "Fraternity B," told me that it would not be a problem to hold the bid over the summer, although to be sure to let them know.
