I know for a fact that bad influences and decisions within the chapter can affect it's reputation at the chapter. The individuals within the fraternity need to get their asses in gear and focus on more things than just partying and hazing. While I DO agree with hazing to a certain extent, vandalism and hardcore practices to the pledges only discourage people from joining in the future. I know at my chapter, in particular, things were going bad for years. We went from #1 at our school to last in a matter of less than a year. Nearly a year ago we lost our house and rush suffered greatly. Fortunately, we had guys in our chapter that gave a damn. Us losing our house could have been the best thing for our chapter because it forced us to strive for something. We had an open rush, with help from nationals, and in one semester (not a year, two years, but ONE SEMESTER!!) we changed our entire chapter around. We got an even better house than we had before (and currently the best that our chapter has ever had), better organizational skills, better leaders, quality pledges and recruitment (we were even recognized by the campus for that), and we attained #1 in grades. All of this in one semester. It can be done, but it takes alot of heart and dedication.
