Great Neck South HS
Colors: Blue and orange
Nickname: Rebels
Graduating class: around 220
Back in the 50's, Great Neck HS was getting very overcrowded, so the school district built South Middle and High schools and renamed the existing schools North. Since South had "broken away" they became the Rebels. Since they were the Rebels, they had to have totally different colors from North - so they chose blue and orange, instead of the blue and orange North was using.
Playing sports against North was therefore rather interesting. I remember a basketball game we played at North. Since we were the away team, naturally we wore our blue away uniforms. For some strange reason, North only
had away uniforms. It's hard to know who to pass the ball to when the other team is wearing the same color uniform you are...!
