Honestly, I think that this issue may be more pressing for those of you in HBGLOs, b/c the topics in those org-specific forums tend to be more active than the forum for, say, my organization.
Dealing with issues more serious than those offered up in Chit-Chat would put you more 'on the spot' when it comes to a person's respectibility, and regarding his/her opinion, than some of the more banal topics (such as the World Cup or music tastes) and it seems like then it may be more acceptible to hold prior postings in mind when taking a person's opinion.
Then again, maybe not.
