I don't know of anyone trying to pretend they were apart of my sorority, but I remember in college some years ago a guy came on our campus and pretended to be an Omega. When those guys found out they threw down on that brotha. I mean why pretend like your in an organization when you're not. I feel you should just go for it if it's that good that you have to pretend, be real. Go through the process and find out the history of the org. and appreciate the goals of the founders.
As for any type of legal trouble I am not sure, but I also think that nationals may have that answer.
