Ok, this is something that people fail to see. ESPECIALLY those people who aren't greek.

Many of us get the question "Why do you want to buy your friends?" These people, to me, lack the ability to make an educated guess or argument. They were probably rejected by a greek org too.

This is what I tell people:

1) You can't buy people
2) We arn't buying friends, we are gaining membership to a national/international organization that supports community service and national philanthropies.
3) We aren't buying friends, we are gaining knowledge of leadership skills and networking
4) We aren't buying friends, we are getting the upper hand because if I was up for the same job as you, I would get it because I have a prestigous organizaion on my resume that is known far and wide for its endevours

The word sisterhood does not mean friendship. You do not gain automatic friendship when you are handed a bid. What you do get is respect. You get respect because during the "rush" period you proved to the sisters that you were a someone that would be an asset to their organization. You have skills and/or qualities that would benifit their organization. Friendship comes later.

As for a clique within a clique. . . sororities and fraternities are not cliques. They are national/international organizations. Cliques are a group of people. In 5 years, at least half of a sorority will have graduated and spread out across the world, but the sorority will still be there.

As for girls not talking to each other. . . Just because I'm a sister of a sorority doesn't mean that I have to like everyone in my sorority. I do Respect them because they are a part of my organization, but I don't have to be friends with them. We will get along and be civil to one another because we have the same intentions when it comes to our organization and that is to further its ideals and purpose.
