I guess times have changed
At my school, it was jeans or khakis (or sometimes, slightly nicer slacks), and a nice top - a tank top was about the skimpiest you'd see. Few people carried purses - keys, ID, and cash went in your pants pockets, and people tended not to carry their cell phones.
