If you have it cached on your computer, then sometimes it will continue to show up even after the hotlink fails. That's why sometimes when you hotlink, you see the correct image, but no one else can. That's why hotlinking is for tools.
I'd post a pic here, but I'm not on my laptop, so I'd have to hotlink.
