Hi Everybody!

I recently went through formal recruitment at my school, and am happy to say that I received a bid! If everyones interested in reading, I thought I'd share my positive experience. I'd prefer to keep my name and school private, but I'm sure it won't be that hard to figure out. I go to a small, public college with 4 NPC sororities, and 1 colony coming to campus this semester. Going into recruitment, I had a very open mind and no real prior judgments of the groups on campus. Greek life is actually pretty big on my campus, although each sorority had a campus total of about 60 before each recruitment.

I'll refer to each of the sororities on campus as Disney Princesses I hope you guys like my story

Round Robin
Our introduction to recruitment was actually very brief. The first night was deemed round robin, and we were put into our groups. For this night, all of the sorority sisters participating were wearing black, and not their letters. For some reason, we weren't supposed to know what group each girl belonged to. This was confusing to both the PNM's and the members, we both didn't really understand why we weren't supposed to know what groups the girls we were getting along with were in! They explained that it was just supposed to get us comfortable, which I guess it did. Each group visited three different areas. First, my group played an icebreaker with a group of the members. Pretty standard, we kind of just introduced ourselves. We continued to the "mixer" room, where we were escorted in by one of the members, and just made casual conversation. Our last activity of the evening was a craft room, where we made valentines to give to a battered women's shelter. All in all, it was a pretty good evening! I was a little intimidated by the amount of girls that came out for rush, the highest ever for my school, 150. This was a little scary because usually, pledge classes at my school, even for formal recruitment, aren't bigger than 15.

Thanks for reading!

My group visited Aurora first. I was pretty taken aback by the whole singing and chanting as soon as we walked in the door, I really wasn't expecting it considering how low key round robin had been the night before. My conversation with the girl that walked me in seemed a little forced and awkward to me. After doing their activity, I really was not feeling like I fit in with this group. They just didn't seem very close, and I was definitely sensing some of their bitchiness towards each other. I started to worry that it might just be me, and that the whole process would feel this way.

Next, we went to Cinderella. They had a really cute theme, and their activity was actually fun. I felt like I really loosened up here. I didn't have anything really in common with the girl that escorted me in, but there weren't too many awkward lulls in the conversation. I was introduced to several other girls that I got along with, and could see myself being friends with. Visiting this chapter really put me at ease and I was happy to feel a connection with them. I realllly wanted to be invited back to these girls!

For our third party, we visited Pocahontas. This is a new chapter colonizing on our campus. Girls from other chapters were there to talk to us about what it meant to become a colony member, and the benefits that it would bring. I was impressed with how close they seemed, but was kinda turned off by how little they knew, and wanted to know, about us. Some of the girls I talked to didn't even know where in the state they were. I believe that they were just trying to get their name out there, and were not actively recruiting. On the bright side, they had yummy snacks

Next, we went to Belle. I loved these girls!! They were so energetic and welcoming. They seemed to be genuinely having fun talking to all of us, and hanging out with each other. I really liked how connected they seemed to be. Their theme was sooo adorable!

My last party was at Ariel. I know I've been saying this for all the groups, but their theme was so cute! They clearly spent a lot of time preparing. I got along well with the first girl that I was introduced to, and even met another girl from my hometown. Even though most of them were nice girls, they definitely seemed awkward. Something just didn't click.

At the end of the night, I ranked the sororities like this:
Belle
Cinderella
Aurora
Ariel

Belle and Cinderella were definitely my favorites. I ranked Aurora above Ariel because they were many of the girls I spoke to's first choice. I know listening to "tent talk" is never good, but I figured I wanted to see what all of these girls had seen! At this point, I felt no connection to either group.

We didn't rank Pocahontas because they were dropping out of recruitment after this round, and we were told that they would be back in a few weeks to officially colonize. After a long night, I was really tired but excited for the rest of recruitment!
Good luck!
