i'll tell you firsthand that there is a sorority at my friend's school where almost EVERY girl does drugs and drinks almost every night. they look trashy and give off that reputation. and you know what, they seem to be proud of it! but if someone were to say that on the board, then they would be closed minded? nope. they would be telling the truth.
i think the problem is that one person's idea of good can be another person's idea of bad. but you're right, people are free to write what they want, they just need to take it with a grain of salt. if that is someone's personal opinion, it is obviously how they see that group represent on campus. they're not closed minded, it's just the ideals that they think are important are not the same as what the group is displaying.
