My mom made sure that I never touched the historical dolls clothes which I guess is a good thing (although I did sneak a few of them and changed their clothes anyway). I loved the books too and read all the ones they came with. I noticed they discontinued Samantha which sucks because I loved her and the time period. They made a movie from it too!
