I just wanted to let you all know that I am in a sorority at UC Davis. SAEPi came around and gave us all information about their appearance on MTV. From the beginning, it was definitely obvious that it was not such a good idea. It became really difficult for other National sorority members to stay off of camera. MTV was everywhere! They were at the bars, on campus, basically all over the place! We all knew how MTV was going to depict sorority women from the start, and tried to talk to the University about controlling this issue. Our attempts failed, so basically, I know that my entire house is definitely dreading June 24th. Being not only a member of the greek community, but also a student at UC Davis, I know that MTV will definitely put a damper on our reputation. Hopefully, it will not have an effect on the number of girls we get to Rush in the Fall.
Secondly, SAEPi does not represent the entire greek community here at Davis. Not that I have anything against these girls, I know that some of them are definitely great individuals, but I just think that they are labeling the rest of the sororities on campus. Basically, when you ask anyone about the sororities here at Davis, SAEPi will not be mentioned. I also think it says a lot that MTV had to basically refurnish SAEPi's house, and actually rented out an apartment for all of their new pledges to stay and live together! If the point is to show the "real" life of a sorority on campus, why do they need to glam everything up?I know that National sororities couldn't have taken part in this event, so it is awkward that we have to be tied into these stereotypes. If I know MTV, we can all expect the worst out of this show:
