I am a freshman and I went through recruitment in september and got in. It was the best decision I ever made. As far as my sorority goes, once you are an alumna, you are an alumna and cannot return to active status.

Whether you'll be allowed to become active again after taking alumna status depends on the sorority. This is a good question for the appropriate person at your HQ or a regional person/chapter advisor.
