TCU accepts invitation to join Big East

As a TCU alumna, I am very excited about this possibility. Granted, the geography is quite odd, but you do what you have to do. Conferences that are geographically closer have not been interested in inviting TCU in, and they did what they had to do to join a BCS conference.

I also don't think travel will be that big of an issue. Currently, the athletes are traveling two time zones to Utah, Wyoming, and California. Plus, many of those schools are in areas that can not be accessed via a direct flight. By traveling only 100 or so miles further to go East, the teams only have to endure 1 hour time changes and many of those cities can be flown to direct. Therefore the travel and carbon footprint is smaller.

Basketball will be interesting. Admittedly, that will be quite the uphill battle for at least the first few years! It will be exciting for basketball fans in the DFW area when those Big East teams come through. Also was pleased to learn that the Pitt basketball coach is a TCU grad who was a star player on our team once-upon-a-time.

I hope that the football team can continue playing at their current level. Part of the reason that we were successful this year is a quarterback that was a four year starter. We shall see what happens after he graduates.

Personally, I am looking forward to finally being able to take a small road trip and actually get to watch them play.
