I feel you about the weaves, though. LMAO!! I don't wear weaves for the same reason, ... it seems that it would be difficult to really penetrate the scalp for a good washing (I assume, at least). Some people wear weave that is glued, others wear weave that is sewn in. Either way, I would imagine it would be difficult. But that's just me ...

Well, locs breathe quite well in its "condition", as you would call it. Again, it's just HAIR. Now saying it's unattractive is a far cry from saying it's not clean especially when basing it on an opinion.
If I an get paid for the amount of times people who asked me how do I wash my hair, I would be RICH...my usual reply is "how do you wash yours?"
And no...it's not difficult to penetrate at all and speaking for myself, I deep scrub my scalp at least twice before I even think about drying it. My wife is about the same...but it does take a bit longer to dry especially in the winter time. The best part of washing, especially on weekends during the summer if I am going to be out and about, is to wash it early in the morning with a peppermint shampoo and let it air dry.
