Remember Soror Hattie McDaniel and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Tuesday, October 26th is the anniversary of Hattie McDaniel's death. As you know, Hattie McDaniel is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and was the first African American to receive an Oscar. As you also know, we have a national program named after her, the Hattie McDaniel Cancer Awareness and Health Program. Hattie McDaniel died of breast cancer on October 26, 1952. All members of Sigma Gamma Rho and their affiliates are wearing a pink ribbon in honor of Hattie McDaniel and the fight against breast cancer today. Please join us if you can and wear a pink ribbon or think about all the women fighting for their lives with breast cancer.

Now under the umbrella of Sigma's Project Reassurance and the Healthy Choices campaign, read about Hattie McDaniel and the Hattie McDaniel Cancer Awareness and Health Program during October, which is Hattie McDaniel Breast Cancer Awareness Month for Sigmas and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
