Honestly? I've been to vegas twice, but my best friend took us both times..so i paid for very little..we stayed at the venetian both times, ate at really good restraunts(spago, delmonico, etc..) he gave me money to gamble..bought me drinks, etc..so when i went, i only brought maybe $300..however..i've tried planning several trips on a budget that is more in my budget..if i were you what i suggest is setting aside two different areas of savings.. one just for entertainment(drinks, gambling, shopping..vegas has great shopping..prada, tiffany, 2 sephoras within a mile of each other..) and the other just for traveling/food/hotel...
you can usually find really good deals on places like expedia if you aren't too terribly picky about where you stay..you can usually get a room at the stratosphere for about $29 a night..but you have to take into account its at the totally opposite end of the strip from where you'll probably be spending most of your time..so what you would save on the hotel room you would end up spending on taxis..but you can usually find a room at the excalibur for about $45 per night, new york new york for about $65 per night, etc..so thats defintaely something you want to take into account when you are saving..also..remember that you pretty much only sleep and get ready in your hotel room, so where you stay isn't THAT important..also, hotel rooms in vegas are ALOT cheaper during the week than on the weekend..

hope this helps
