Remember to look at what those dues include. The ones that seem so expensive may very well include a dining plan (even if you live out) and all social functions. The affordable ones, however, may hit you up at every meeting for money for shirts, activities, etc. Compare these costs to your college meal plan/dorm assignment, and often it's cheaper to live in the Greek housing. Many groups also have scholarships and payment plans. If you base your choices on finances, you may very well end up in a cheaper house but not fit in.
