I was invited to pref at Alpha Xi Delta and Kappa Kappa Gamma, but I declined Kappa because their dues were really high and my mom told me she wouldn't pay them that high. (Of course, she then proceeded never to pay for any of it! ... but that's all best forgotten now.) In retrospect it was all fine, because at the time I was interested in Alpha Xi Delta for all the "right" reasons (felt comfortable with everyone, shared interests, lots of laughter) and in Kappa for only slightly less right ones (great reputation, idolized my Kappa orientation counselor, and I JUST LOVED the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang song, which I can still sing!), but I'll tell you now that everytime there was any Alpha Xi Drama when I was a collegian -- and you KNOW there was! -- I was mentally thinking "Sheesh ... I might have been a Kappa and be avoiding all this!" Because surely only MY chapter was experiencing any drama. Now, of course, I wouldn't change it for the world, and Kappa still holds a special place in my panhellenic heart!
