This is general information but you can work with this until you visit each sorority to find out what your financial obligations will be. I may be the only one, but I really suggest against calling the Greek Life office. When I worked on campus, the weeks right before school began were always the busiest for us.

Just please be patient and wait until you reach that part of recruitment. Keep in mind that your first year as a new member will likely be more expensive than the rest of your college years because of one time new member and initiation fees, cost of a Badge, etc.

...and I hate to break it to you, but as far as your last sentence is concerned, recruitment is mutual selection. So just because you choose XYZ because they're the most affordable, they're gonna have to choose you, too. On the flip side -- sorority ABC might be the most affordable, but after visiting the house and meeting the sisters, you find that you don't find yourself calling it home. Something to think about.
