There is an organization called the
Society of Professional Journalists that gives awards each year for the most outstanding student newspapers. They only have the regional awards listed on their site but they give national awards too. The Daily Bruin, the U Penn newspaper and Ohio State all win a lot of the big awards for their regions. I am not too familiar with the other regions.
The Daily Trojan is also a great paper and just to give a little plug here, one of my favorite Phis is the new editor in chief of the Daily Trojan. At USC, where there is such an anti-Greek sentiment among people at the DT, this is HUGE accomplishment!
