The organization I belong to is professional fraternity. The chapter I was in as a collegiate was part of the greek council and functioned in many ways just like the social organizations - weekly meetings, same recruitment schedules, greek week, etc. etc.
The group is also an arts organization, so people understood that you have to be at rehearsals. Which was a big bonus.
