I'm so sorry for your loss. Like everyone else has said, you may or may not get a bid, but you'll never know if you don't go through recruitment. Keep an open mind, and see how it goes. Even if you end up without a bid, you may meet some girls you really get along with. I would contact your Greek Life office to get more information on informal recruitment.
Also (and this is from what I've read on GC, as I participated in formal recruitment) many people find they actually like informal recruitment/COB better. For some people, it gives them a chance to get a better look into the chapters and see if they really feel at home there.
