Baltimore officer indicted on murder charges

12 times is a tiny bit extreme, hmm?

BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore police officer has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of an unarmed man outside a nightclub.

Officer Gahiji Tshamba (juh-HAHJ'-ee t-SHAM'-bay) is accused of shooting Tyrone Brown 12 times during an off-duty altercation early on June 5 as crowds spilled out of clubs in the city's Mount Vernon neighborhood.

A grand jury indicted Tshamba on Monday. He faces a maximum penalty of life without parole. He's being held without bail, and he has been suspended from the police department without pay.

Police leaders had criticized prosecutors for not charging Tshamba more swiftly. State's Attorney Patricia Jessamy says her office acted with all deliberate speed and that police were eager to show that rogue officers will be held accountable.

Supposedly the deceased was touching a woman and that started the altercation.
