My engagement ring is set in platinum and is over 65 years old. It was my fiance's grandmother's ring. I agree that platinum dulls more easily, things like lotions, or cooking or overly active hands wear away its shine after awhile. However, it must be durable if it has lasted over 65 years and its still in mint condition.

My diamond is a full carrat in the center, set in a four prong setting with 2 diamond baguettes on each side. It was designed in the late 1930's.
