I personally think Big/Little is important but I think it just really depends on the people within the relationship as some guys in my chapter just wanted a little to have a little and didn't care who they got while others (including myself) find the one we really want.

When I got my Big I was three days into pledging and we barely knew each other. We got semi close during pledge as we had weekly big brother events but I always felt like I was trying more to get to know him then he was me. After barely speaking for an entire year (even as roommates for half that year) we finally started to become good friends and when he chose to stay on and go to Law School at our school, our friendship only grew. Its safe to say that my Big is one of my good friends and he is definitely someone I can go to for advice, hang out or just someone to rely on.

Now my littles are another story....Little #1 when I first got him the two of us were very close. He is the same age as me but pledged a year later. We were good friends until Little #2 came along and he stopped talking to me. This has continued past graduation as well. Little #2 and I get along great but our relationship does not rival anything I had with the first one just because he is busy with his life and I am with mine. We tried to get lunch together every so often to catch up.

At my school the idea of the family tree goes beyond just the big and little and to the next generation. Though my relationship with my littles are bad I do have great relationships with both my Lil Lil's and Lil Lil Lil's.
