Isn't it sad that we can haul ourselves out of bed early nearly every weekend make positive contributions to our communities and raise $XXX for charities, but the "independent" (and you all know what I mean when I say that ) world hears of one isolated incident and labels us as one big fat expensive party? Take Southeast's campus, for example-2001 Greek Week chose Cape Girardeau United Way and Big Brothers/Big Sisters as its beneficiaries, in addition to the Family Fun Fair, Special Olympics, and blood drive that are tradition. (The entire community knows that none of these events could possibly take place without the Greeks). The representatives from United Way and BB/BS said that we raised more in one week than they are able to solicit from ALL the business in Cape during the WHOLE YEAR! This was published in the city paper and broadcast on the news.

I just wish that they could see how much more per capita work we do than the independent students on campus. If I were a betting woman, I'd say that the majority of the alcohol violations on our (dry) campus are the work of non-affiliateds. We as Greeks have a certain sense of honor to uphold for our organizations and see that there is much more to college life than partying.
