I agree that GLO's should do LOCAL community service - especially in small towns. It is hard to explain to townspeople who don't have a lot of $$$ to donate anyway that you are sending it to someplace they never heard of 10 states away. I would say, keep the fundraising for your national philanthropy on campus (with events like Derby Daze or Anchor Splash). The community will be a lot more impressed if you do things like a clothing drive for the local women's shelter or babysitting people's kids while they're trying to get their GED.

Oh, and PATRONIZE THE DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES ON A REGULAR BASIS. Don't just hop in your car and go to Wal-Mart or the strip mall - support the people who have been there and part of the community for umpteen years. (Heck, this goes for everyone, not just collegiate Greeks.)

I can FINALLY get back into Greek Life. Ahhhh, deep sigh of relief.
