When we'd been dating about 6 months, my now-husband said "You know, I've heard about this thing called lavaliering, what is it?" so I explained. He said, "Well, if I were in a fraternity I'd lavalier you, but I'm not, so..." and gave me a little heart pendant with a diamond. And my sorority did a lavaliering ceremony for me just as if it were a regular lavalier!
