Yes! Normally, I treat her just as I'd treat anyone else. She is really quite beautiful, until she's deep in thought - then you can tell. It's a heartbreak, and I wouldn't hurt her or her mother for the world!

Scroll through to find the person you want to block in chat. Select them, then save the list.
On the left hand side there is now a list with the name (say you named it "Blocked")
Now, go to chat on the lower right and open it. Click Friend Lists. Select the list you just created. It will show up in the chat window. Slide the slider over so it's no longer green.
That person can no longer see you're online to chat with you, but everyone else can.
They still have access to everything a friend would in your profile though (although you can use this list to restrict them from things like reading your wall, seeing your photos etc).

Bless you! I really am not a chat/aim/im type person, unless I'm in a chat room. Those pop up chats are just annoying as garbage full of fish!
