My most useful courses have been:
Race and Ethnicity in the U.S. - We had a white professor who was majoring in African-American studies, and she taught the MESS out of that class! There were around 120 students enrolled and although roll wasn't taken there was rarely an empty seat. She spent an entire week walking us through the gruesome processes that slaves had to go through when they were being snatched from their villages in Africa. The FIRST time I had ever been TAUGHT that in in actual institution! Also, the class was diverse, so there was always a lot of debate. I loved it!
Psychology and Law - The prof taught the class as if he was a judge and we were the lawyers. We were given a list of cases the first day of class that would be discussed in subsequent meetings. In class, if he called on us, we had to tell him about the psychology of the people involved as he tried to argue us down. The absolute best learning experience I have ever had...I actually REMEMBER most of the stuff we learned in there!
