If they claim to do it, ask them to take you along next time to help out. If they are a real "member", they should have no problem with letting you come along.
2. Does the "member" only talk about menial things in the organization, like party walking, stepping, parties, etc? Orgs. have serious issues to discuss, so why waste time with the small stuff?
3. Does the "member" ALWAYS talk about things that they did when they were "on-line"? If so, BE SKEPTICAL. There is no such thing as being "on-line". Hazing was eliminated in 1990. Besides that, whatever happened to that person during MIP is STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL. Members usually DO NOT discuss these issues with non-members. (Memberfriends, corret me if I am wrong) I have close friends and family that are members of various orgs. and they still refuse to discuss MIP with me.
4. Does this "member" have a card? Ask them to show it to you. Not that you have to be abrasive about it, but explain that you have been misled by perps in the past. IMO, a member would be happy to flash that card in your face. (At least, I know I would!)
5. Does this "member" have means to help you out? I mean, the wonderful memberfriends in this forum and others are willing to help us and they don't know us from Eve. If this "member" lives in your area and has no means to hook you up with at least one contact, RED ALERT!
5. Does this "member" know history? Come on. We are giving some perps too much credit. Even with all the infromation that is available through websites, forums such as this, and other resources, some perps don't even take the time to learn it all. Ask them questions that all members should know. Ask them questions that even a four-year-old girl that lives in a cave in Bosnia should know about the org. If they don't know, you have my permission to haul off and WHIP HER A**!!
There are other ways that I have thought of, but I don't want to hog the conversation more than I already have. Just use good judgement. **Memberfriends, let me know what you think!**

RedefinedDiva I don't totally agree with some of the points you made so I will break down my opinions about the subject on a point by point basis:
1 & 2. From what I gather from various posts on this board and other's, there are members of organizations who fit these qualities. I don't want to cross any boundaries but I believe they call those members "t-shirt wearers."
3. There are people who talk in depth about their "process". I have had a couple member's of different orgs tell me all about the things they had to do (I won't go into detail here... even if they don't practice discretion, I do) because they knew I was interested in joining a sorority.
4. This one makes sense but then a resourceful perp may just make up one that looks like the card real members get and get it printed at Kinko's. Also, I know that some members wouldn't take kindly to a non-greek asking to see their membership card.
5. Their are some members of organization's who will not help you out if you were their blood sister (slight exaggeration here). I have come across members like this myself.
6. Just like you and I know basic history about the organizations we are interested in, a perp can get the same knowledge from the same places we get our knowledge. There are some things that only members would know that can distinguish a perp that has done their research from a real member.
Thats just my opinion though, feel free to disagree.
