Bumping because I recently learned that Jim Parsons (Sheldon) is a Pike.

This is, I think, a major reason that the show has taken such root among people who have, or have family members with, Asperger's. I can't tell you how often my wife and I laughed and said we can see our son acting or reacting exactly like Sheldon. It can be very cathartic.
Although the writers have said they didn't create Sheldon as having Asperger's (they just think of him as "Sheldony"), Jim Parsons has noted "I can say that he couldn't display
more facets of it." But he's not a two-dimensional character, nor is he simply the butt of jokes. As annoying as he can be, the others -- Penny especially, perhaps -- still accept him like he is.
