I know this was bumped by a spammer, but I missed this thread the first time around.

When I was in grad school, one of my fellow GAs, Gary, was a massage therapist. In order to ensure that our focus was on our GA position, our assistantships were awarded based on a student-department agreement that students would not have any other jobs. When he accepted the assistantship, Gary willingly discontinued his MT job during the school year.

Our first summer, once we were all released from the agreement, Gary started up the MT thing. My first year was relatively stressful, so I decided to see if Gary was as good a masseuse as he was a student. OMG.

He really did a fantastic job. My experience wasn't anything sexual like CG's experience with Davin, but he did things with his hands that I never knew were possible. He attributed his skills to having been on the drumline throughout high school and college. He seemed to think that while his MT classmates were focusing on how tired their hands were, he was able to focus on what his hands were doing. If that's true, then God bless drummers.

I'd say I discovered his magic hands when he was about 24. He had been a MT for a couple years before I met him, though, so I don't know how that affects the age theory.

Wow. Hadn't thought about that for years. Wonder how Gary's doing these days...
