YES.
Often, PNMs ask"I have a 3.9, recs for every house, and I'm in 2 clubs, am I going to get a bid?"
Those are just the tangible, standard things that most PNMs will have. I'd imagine at UK, all PNMs have good grades, recs, and at least one or 2 activities." I'd also imagine that most of them are reasonably pretty (so appearance isn't a factor).
To be honest, there's more to it than that. The thing that gets most overlooked are conversation skills and other connnections. With all PNMs being equal (with respect to grades, recs, activities), there's got to be something else that makes a chapter take interest in a girl.
More often than not, it's the conversations she has with sorority members and connections she makes with them.
Also important with upperclassmen is knowing girls in chapters. I mean, if two upperclassmen have equal grades, recs, etc. I tend to think that the chapter is more likely to take a chance on Julie Junior who has relationships with 3 sisters from SGA and has class with another 2 (who like her alot), than say Tina Transfer whom they know nothing about except her stats on paper.
All this to say that there's more to it than grades and recs when it comes to a competitive environment like UK.
