A few heart-to-hearts with your new member coordinator and VP Finance could have made your new member process a lot less painful.
As for joining another group, as long as they are not an NPC organization, you should be fine, but check with the multicultural sorority as to whether or not you are eligible per their bylaws and any councils they may be members of.
