When I was younger, I used to feel that "****a" was the same as "****er", but as I've had more exposure to different cultures I see that it's not remotely the same. Although I would find it offensive if somebody from any other race said it besides an African-American.
I look it like this. My guy friends, being the mature global citizens they are, always call each other "douche" and "pervert" and stuff like that and everybody laughs, because even though its technically an insult, in reality it is being used as a term of endearment. But if somebody else came up to them as a group and called one of them a douche they would be furious, because they don't have the group acceptance to use those insults (even as a term of endearment). I think it is a racialized (talk about an ironic thread to make up a word in) version of that.
Back to the original thread, most of my pet-peeves are sports related. I can't STAND it when commentators refer to a baseball team as a "ball club". Don't ask why. I also can't stand when people say things like, "You got your Kobe Bryants, you got your Lamar Odoms"...no, you have Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom. AGH it drives me crazy!
Also I hate it when people say "case and point" instead of "case in point". It doesn't even make sense that way!!
