Pi Beta Phi was the first women's fraternity to be founded as a NATIONAL organization. While other groups were founded before it, they were at first local in aim. Pi Beta Phi, from the moment of its founding, planned on becoming a national organization and only waited a year to start their second chapter, Iowa Alpha, at Iowa Wesleyan University.
