Regardless of whether this guy goes for the insanity defense, there is obviously something wrong with him that he would execute his own son - who knows what he would do to his babymama. As a mother, I'm pretty sure I would have been willing to throw myself in harm's way for one of my children, but I doubt the law extends that far, because clearly, interceding in this situation would have lead to serious harm and possible death for her.
Either way, negligence would not be an appropriate charge, being that she didn't really have much culpability in this. Calling 911 might have shown a little bit of an attempt to prevent this from happening, but I doubt it would have changed the outcome. Besides, I highly doubt her mind was functioning properly at that point.
